we went rails

February 14th, 2006

One winter morning we were ready to finish some small todos on GoBarz and launch v2, when our programmer told us some fine news: We Went Rails. Yes, GoBarz v2 will be done on ROR. This will add a couple of days to make it complete. But we think it’s ok. :)

GoBarz v1 was done with PHP in 1 day.

V2 will contain 10x more features… and we’ll see how long it will takes us to launch it.

Updates

February 10th, 2006

We’re preparing to roll out the list of updates to make this service not so “alpha” as it is now. In a couple of days you will be able to:

  • Place any website link or RSS feed button - straight to your Google Toolbar. In just 2 clicks.
  • Top Technoraty blogs and top del.icio.us links - one-click link / RSS feed addition to your toolbar.
  • Some really sweet service buttons - instant HTML validation of your currently opened website - with a help of our Google Toolbar button etc.
  • RSS feed auto-discovery. All you enter is URL, we’ll give you the list of availiable feeds.
  • Some help on the whole thing. People keep asking how to get rid of these buttons :)

Soon. Really.

One day project log

February 9th, 2006

10:55 we have the idea. looks fresh. let’s do it.

11:39 naming brainstorm. from “googbars” to “goButs” :)

12:54 we’ve got the name. and the domain name.

13:26 first design sketches.. will they sue us?

13:47 got the logo. I hope they won’t.

15:43 THEY started writing the html and php. They say they do AJAX. Do we need another one?

16:30 I’m getting bored.

17:41 HUH. They’re already testing the beta version! and what about me?

17:45 Looks good, I’m in.

17:53 Typed in the first blog post. Verry original.

20:50 let’s call it first draft dirty pre alpha beta version. It works.

Actually, it creates you a link you can use on your website. Anyone who will click on it - will have your website bookmarked in his Google Toolbar. Also - you can add your RSS feed straight to the Google toolbar with the use of this tool.

It’s free, fast and fresh, and we did it in just one day.
